The most common type of hair transplant involves removing a donor strip of hair-bearing scalp from the back of the patient's head. The sample is the dissected into very small tissue grafts sprouting one to four hairs per unit. These follicular units are then placed into tiny incisions in the area of the scalp lacking hair.
